By Sophie NelsonOn July 19th, after the school spirit dance, PCC 2018 embarked on their first tranquility of the summer. Tranquility is a reflection of PCC, and you have time to think about special times with friends, memories you have made, and the rest of the summer.
As students were getting ready to leave Alumni Hall after the dance, Ms. Martin, one of the program directors, made an announcement. She ordered the camp to walk to the tent near the boys’ dorm, O’Hara Hall. The first years of PCC 2018 were confused and questioning where they were going. While the second years and third years knew what was happening, and most of them were already crying.
When walking into the big tent, students were silent and sadness was looming over PCCers of 2018. Once seated, Mr. Papasodero listed the rules of tranquility and how to respect others. PCC 2018 then listened to “Living in the Moment” by Jason Mraz, a song played almost every year of the program. After the song, almost half of the camp was already bawling their eyes out. Ms. Carlson, the female RA, then read a poem aloud. The poem was about being yourself and it hit home for a lot of students. At the end of tranquility, Mr. Papasodero told us to tell our friends how much they mean to us. “Tranquility always makes you think about the fun times you’ve had at PCC, and gets you excited for your future at PCC,” said second year Rebecca Bryson. Tranquility is a safe space for the camp to relay feelings and reflect on your times at PCC.
PCC 2018 has completed their first tranquility and the camp was a crying wreck. Two more are in store and they will teach us how to march to a different beat.
