HIATUS WHO?
by Sophia Kyranos and Zayn Morrison
The duo Twenty One Pilots officially stopped their hiatus on Wednesday, July 11th by dropping two singles on the Internet. It was also revealed that they are releasing a new album, “Trench”, on October 5th. The two singles are “Jumpsuit” and “Nico and the Niners”.
Yesterday, on the band’s official Twitter account, they were posting cryptic videos of a yellow eye with scenes going on inside it. Eventually towards mid-day, they released the singles. On YouTube there was only audio to “Nico and the Niners”, but there is a whole video for “Jumpsuit”.
In the video, Tyler Joseph is running in a trench coat from a man with a red cape on a horse. As the running continues, people from above through yellow flowers down towards him. This stands out because yellow is the color that represents “Trench”. However, red represents their last album (and Tyler’s alter ego) “Blurryface”. This leaves fans with many questions. Is the man chasing Tyler Blurryface?
Throughout the rest of the video, Josh Dun is not noticed. Some fans believe they saw him above the trench staring back at Tyler. Is Tyler running to or away from Josh?
With the new album out, Tyler and Josh also changed their logo from l–/ to ll–//. Along with using their signature “Ø”, they are also beginning to use an "E."
The songs themselves do not sound like Twenty One Pilots’ traditional music. There is none of Tyler’s signature piano playing in either of the singles. It seems as if they have gone for more of a hard rock kind of vibe, rather than alternative.
With all of these conspiracy theories going on, what do you think could be true? No matter what happens or how the album is, Twenty One Pilots will always be unpredictable and carry mystery with them wherever they go.
