Hyped Up for Hyannis Sound!
by Sophie Nelson
Last night, July 25th, the core course blew PCC ‘s Vineyard Vines socks off! In the Shields Science Center, an all male acapella group sang a whirlwind of songs. The group, Hyannis Song, were made of ten guys that all live together in Hyannis. Most guys came from the Northeast, while one guy came from the midwest.
Their setlist consisted of a few new hits and m ost classic rock spin-offs. Hyannis Sound sang about ten songs in total. The songs were sung by a variety of singers from the group, while the others were collaborating on the base of the show. Their group is an acapella group, which means they only use their mouths to produce all the music in each song. Every guy in the group knew their part in the group and shined individually and as a whole.
Some songs they sang were “Jump” by Van Halen, “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran, “Sweet Child of Mine” by Guns n’ Roses, “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison, “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash, a “Celebrate” medley from a group of singers, and a few less popular songs. Every song was performed with soul and passion. The songs had the whole camp dancing in their seats and singing along to the bops. Along with the songs, we also learned about the members of the group.
After every song, the member who sang it would talk about themselves and a funny story. It was a good way to relate to the group while having fun. “It sounded pretty majestic to me. Peter upped the octave!” said first year Faith Jordan. All of the members of the group stuck out for different people and they had a meet and greet after the show. Students go to take pictures and talk to the group if they wanted to.
Hyannis sound hosted a giveaway for the PCC students and the prizes were their
CDs. You had to follow Instagram to enter. The winners haven’t been announced yet. Also fun fact, Hyannis Sound is sponsored by Vineyard Vines.
