#Gainzz: Dorm Life at PCC 2018

By Sophie Nelson

Have you ever gotten the opportunity to stay in a college dorm? For most PCCers here at Stonehill College, it’s their first time in a dorm. It’s the beginning of Week 4 and PCC 2018 students are finally adjusting to their roommates, rooms, showers, and many other aspects of dorm life.

Living with your family can be challenging at some times, so imagine living with a stranger. Having a roommate or two can have its ups and downs, and it is a really unique bonding experience. Most students feel uncomfortable when sharing personal space, but it is easy to adjust to a new place when given enough time. Most proctors have roommate bonding times and it’s a great experience before going off to college. PCC is a rare program where you can have a little glimpse of college at a young age, and it proves to be helpful.

When students and parents hear “college dorm”, one of their first thoughts are about the showers. Parents are usually worried about germs and other things, but the showers at Stonehill aren’t very bad at all. “It’s awkward hearing other people while showering, but you get used to it,” said first year Sophia Kyranos. Some shower situations can be slippery, but everyone is accepting and kind,”.

One of the last aspects of dorm life is about food, bonding, and sharing. Coming back to the dorms late at night (9:30pm) ensures some late night snacks. Some popular foods at night are Ramen noodles, Cup O’ Noodles, Doritos, mac ‘n cheese, soup, goldfish, cookies, Pringles, and so much more. Along with eating, night is one of the best times to bond with your roommate, hall mates, friends, and proctors. Sitting down as a group, eating noodles, and talking about life can be one of the best experiences PCC can award you.

It is perfectly normal for students to be nervous about a first time dorm experience, and PCC is a place to try new things. Dorm life is a fun life, and it can really open your eyes about living with someone.
