INTERVIEW WITH A FIRST YEAR PROCTOR

by Ciara Lonergan

Ever wonder what it would feel like to be a proctor, and a first year at that? Today, August 8, 2017, I sat down with Ms. Brainard to get the inside scoop.

Q: How did you find out about PCC?
A: I went as a student, and just like everybody else I wanted to be a proctor in the future. But a lot of kids say that and never do. I’m glad I did!

Q: What was the application process like?
A: First, you needed to write a letter of intent, like why you want the job and if you think you got what it takes. Then, you need three recommendations and to send in your resume.

Q: What was it like when you got the job?
A: I really needed it and so I was super excited when I got the job I wanted. It was really weird coming back as a proctor.

Q: How would you rate the stress of being a proctor?
A: The stress level definitely varies on the summer and the circumstances. There are some moments when I’m doubtful, but at the end of the day, everything works out.

Q: What was the training like?
A: A big part of it was getting to know the other staff. You would also run through what to do in certain scenarios and make posters for your hall.

Q: What is your favorite and least favorite part of your day?
A: My favorite part would have to be laughing all the time and meeting new people and laughing with them. My least favorite? Probably the lack of sleep and having to be the bad guy in situations. I don't like being mean.

Well, there you have it, folks. Take this as advice to not drive your proctors too crazy. You may be a proctor too one day!
