Sandy Structures

Let the building commence! Sand filled our shoes and clung to our feet as the PCC 2019 Sandcastle Tournament began. Yesterday during Rec sand was flying as PCC students raced against the clock to complete their dream sand creation on the volleyball court. Before the building began, proctors Mr. Leonard and Ms. Nelson gathered the participants for the National Anthem and the rules. Mr. Leonard gave the teams the right away to begin creating their sandy structures. The timer of 30 minutes ticked away as teams rushed to get their creations built. During the competition proctors walked around taking pictures. While the hot sand burned students’ feet, the water supply ran thin. Contestants and onlookers rushed into the Boland lobby to collect water from the bubbler trailing sand behind them. The sixty-second warning came too soon as teams rushed to get in their last minute touches. The timer went off and students backed away from their creations in relief. Proctors then took pictures of each team with their sandy creations. Students gathered once again for the closing ceremonies before it was the dreaded time to destroy their castles.  Students and proctors cleaned the court and went back to their dorms, still awaiting the announcement of the winners.
