Last night in the Hemingway Theatre, the PCC Theatre Class presented the play “All I Ever Really Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.” It was a deep and heartfelt performance that hit PCC in the feels.

The play was a compilation of different sketches, called “Lessons,” that showed a simplistic anecdote or story, only to be followed up by the deeper meaning of the scene. The first lesson was called “Yes, Of Course I Can.” Kindergarten students will answer questions about their abilities affirmatively, whereas high school students either hide their abilities or make excuses for why they do certain things. One example is playing a musical instrument. A kindergarten would proudly proclaim if they played an instrument, but a high school student might deflect by saying, “my mom made me take lessons.”

Since the Hemingway Theatre is too small to accommodate the entire program, the Theatre Class did two performances. Audiences from both shows reported an emotionally riveting experience. “I thought it was going to be a light show with some laughs, but it made me confront some demons,” proctor Ms. Brainard confesses.

The cast included Ash Cooke, Amelia Loughlin, Brenden Lenehan, Chelsea May, Devon Brophy, Ella Bailey, Grayson Costigan, Hayley Ferguson, Lily Martin, Mackenzie Litzenberger, Mia Bennett, Michael Gill, and all performers did an amazing job. Under the direction of Master Teacher Ms. Jessica Kent and Class Intern/Proctor Ms. Manon Brown, the student performers of PCC Theatre created an awe-inspiring evening that took students breath away. “It left me speechless,” Sophie Nelson reports.

While half the program was watching one of the two performances, the other half participated in some good old fashioned night REC, with some PCCers inside watching movies and playing “Just Dance” while others hung outside on the Quad. Lightning during the second performance brought everybody inside, but no matter where you were, it was a night no PCCer would ever forget.
