Last Wednesday, August 1st, the Good Leaders class took a field trip to Gifts to Give. Gifts to Give is a non-profit organization in Acushnet that caters to students in need in New Bedford. The class spent three hours there helping out around their warehouse.

The students left PCC around 8:46am and arrived at 10:00am. They got name tags and went in as a group. There were thirteen people in the group and they did two different activities. First up was a tour consisting of the Puzzle aisle, the School aisle, the Book aisle, the Children aisle, the packing station, the clothing station, and their thrift store. Their thrift store is open on Saturdays and all the donations go towards the organization. Gifts to Give is a non-profit organization and everyone who works there are visitors and volunteers. They also have other groups that regularly come in and help.

The two groups did clothing sorting and book sorting. When sorting clothing volunteers look for stains, holes, rips, and other identifying marks. They do this so children don’t get made fun of because of their clothes. Everyone that gets packages from Gifts to Gives live in New Bedford and are in need. After looking for marks, the volunteers sort the clothes into the correct sizing bins. In total, every piece of clothings is checked six different times by different people. The books are sorted by age and gender.

These people helping out give all their time and energy to help children out. In a year, they help out thousands of families. I am very glad that I got to help out this organization and I will donate more of my time to Gifts to Give in the future.
