Improv Show: An Actor’s View

by Rebecca Bryson with Makayla Sturgeon

Finally, it was Week 5, Day 2, the day that both periods of Improv have been anticipating all summer. THE IMPROV SHOW! The amazing host, Brendan, started off the show. He explained all the work we have put in all summer. The two classes waited anxiously behind the scenes for the first game. The skit was called “What are you doing? I’m Definitely Not,” and it was used to introduce all the people in the show.

Our first official skit was called “Remote Control.” This scene, explained by Josie, is where two people have control of a TV set using a clicker that can do anything. The three other people are in the television and have to do everything the controllers say. Both groups killed it!

The second sketch of the night was called party quirks. The host, Margaret, did an amazing job explaining the game. This is where three people are given a secret identity (usually a celebrity) and everyone, including the audience, can know except for one person. This person is the party host. The object of the game is for the guests to get the host to guess who they are. It is similar to charades, but in more of a skit form. Also, talking is completely allowed.

Next was the “sit, stand, lie.” During this skit there were three performers up on stage, and the host picked scenarios from the crowd. The performers than go get ready and proceeded on with what the crowd wanted. In this skit, somebody always had to be either sitting, standing, or lying down. The scenarios caused many surprises and was wicked fun to watch; I never knew what to expect.

The next skit was called “Survivor.” During this skit, a group of four goes up on stage and performs a skit from the crowd. Once the skit gets finished once, one performer leaves the stage and the skit continues on, but the performers that are still “alive” perform the skit again and take the place of the missing person. This continues until there is one person left performing everybody’s part. This skit was fun to watch the performers mock the others.

The final sketch of the night was the best one yet. The name of it is Tap Out. Both classes took the stage with the host, Maya. One group starts with a scene and then were told to freeze by the host. Then, the second class had to tap in and create a whole new scene using the poses they were in. The Improv Show was a great night, they were able to show PCC the great skills they have learned this summer!
