THE FIRST DAY OF REC OFFERS PCC STUDENTS AN AFTERNOON OF FUN
On Wednesday, July 5th, the students of PCC 2017 celebrated the first day of Rec, an afternoon of activities that provide the opportunity to have fun, step out of one’s comfort zone, and meet new people, on the Stonehill campus.
After lunch and downtime, students headed down to the quad, the large grassy area in the center of campus to begin the highly anticipated first day of Rec. The proctors had prepped the students beforehand by announcing the various activities and games that were scheduled for that day. Once on the quad, the students were able to locate the Rec event they wished to participate in.
Popular outdoor Rec events offered on the first day included duck-duck goose, tag, soccer, ultimate frisbee, extreme hopscotch, basketball, and the classic four square. There were also special kick-off events, such as learning the program dances, nametag decoration, and blob tag.
For those students who prefer indoor activities, PCC also offers Indoor Rec. Some of Wednesday’s Indoor Rec activities included making friendship bracelets, playing board games, and Karaoke sing-alongs.
“It is good to see that Rec is still a big part of PCC,” said Mr. Tressel, Creative Writing Master Teacher and 15-year veteran of the program. “The first day or two of PCC can be intimidating for new students, and Rec provides them an opportunity to see how much fun PCC can be.”
With beautiful summer weather, and plenty of activities for everyone, the first day of Rec was a success. Luckily for the students of PCC, Rec is a daily event Mondays through Thursdays during the six weeks of the program. Everyone is excited about future Rec. “I can’t wait to see all the different activities that Rec has to offer,” said one first-year student. So make sure to go forth and recreate this summer!
