AVIATION SOARS ON FIELD TRIP

by Anna Hoksbergen

Is that a bird? No it’s not. Is it a plane? Yes, it is a plane! But wait, is that a PCC student flying the plane? Yes it is. You heard me, PCC students that are in the Aviation class got to fly a real plane!
The PCC students had only had a few classes of Aviation before they went on a field trip that started at New Bedford Airport. Can you guess what they were doing there? I may have given it away already but that’s just because it is so awesome. A Cessna aircraft was going to take off on it’s way to Providence and it was going to be flown by our very own PCC-pilots. And they did it. “I can’t even put it into words” Alisson says as she tells us all about the aviation field trip.
The Cessna aircraft was a four passenger plane. Which means the plane was smaller than a car. Small but still really cool! Allison explains that they were flying at about 2000 ft.--that’s high! On the plane were three students and one pilot. The pilot took off and landed, but once they were up and running the PCC student pilots took over control of the aircraft. Once there was zero gravity PCC student pilots cut the engine and let the plane drift. Every student got to fly for about 30 minutes. The plane, as I mentioned earlier, took off in New Bedford, landed in Providence and went back to New Bedford.
Sounds like a really nice field trip and a very cool experience which will turn into a memory that won’t just fly away as easily as our PCC pilots did.
