HAVING A ROOMMATE FOR THE FIRST TIME

By Ciara Lonergan

For those who on a typical night have their own room, dealing with another person in their dorm can be a challenge. As my roommate and I both have our own bedrooms at home, it certainly took some time for the two of us.

As I was lugging my suitcase up the stairs to my dorm, a million thoughts were running through my head as to what this new concept would be like. What if we didn’t get along? Would getting dressed and going to sleep be weird? What if they wanted nothing to do with me? Despite all of my worries, if I could go back in time I would have told myself to stop worrying over nothing. My roommate shared her insight as well.

“It’s a challenge that can take some getting used,” said Sage Joy, my roommate, “but once you do, it’s awesome.” I without a doubt in my mind agree. Usually my room is a quiet place to relax in, but now I could spend all night chatting endlessly with Sage.

I am sure plenty of other students at PCC are going through the same thing, so know this: although Sage and I are still learning about each other, I bet one day in the future we will think back to this summer and realize it was no problem at all to share a dorm.
