PCC WELCOMES YOUNGER MINDS

This is the first summer PCC is open to incoming eight graders.

Welcome to the first year of PCC with incoming eighth graders! This summer, PCC has reached out to a younger grade to start sharpening their minds earlier. From my personal experience, so far, PCC is an outstanding program with many different and exciting activities. I have never been away from home for a long time; however, the proctors are great at making sure you feel comfortable and prepared for the whole six weeks of the program.

Being the youngest group of people was a bit overwhelming at first, but then I made some amazing new friends who I know will be there for me throughout PCC, and hopefully in my life after the program, as well. Currently, I am taking Journalism and Forensic Science. When I first went into these classes, especially as one of the younger kids, I was nervous that I wouldn’t know as much as everyone else in those classes did. So far, I have realized that everyone is here for the same reason-  to learn things we don’t already know.

Having the opportunity to come to PCC was somewhat of a challenge for me because I didn’t know if I really wanted to do it. However, I understand now that it was my fear telling me to stay in my comfort zone even though PCC is a great program. Students typically come to PCC to be drawn out of their shells. The incoming eighth graders have it a little bit harder, considering that they are still in middle school, probably doing stuff they haven’t done before. However, they made it here and that is an accomplishment in itself.

So, if you are offered the opportunity to step out of your comfort zone, do it. Don’t forget, age is just a number; it’s who we are inside that matters and that is what makes PCC a place to be yourself.
