PCC'S GOT TALENT
by Beth Pennington
Wednesday night's Core Course showed the voices and comedy of talented students. The show began with Scarlette Leonard doing sit-down comedy. Her act began with some interesting stories about the pets she had. Then she ended with a little stand-up comedy. With the crowd cheering and laughing her act came to a close. Then it was time for some smooth singing from Jessie Carson singing Blank Space. The twist of the pop song to a jazz tune was a great surprise.
How many songs can you memorize? Alex Nason knows the top 100 songs on Billboard charts from 2018. You throw out a number and he knows the song and who sang it. If you name a song he can say what number it was on the chart.
Another great singer was Lindsey Webber who sung "This is Gospel" by Panic at the Disco. Students swayed as they listened to the sweet song. It was time for another meaningful song from Richie. He sang the soulful tune of "All of Me" by John Legend. Time for the strumming of the guitar, and a happy, peaceful version of "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World.
With the melody still ringing in their heads, it was Vanessa Cardin's time to shine. She sang a moving cover of "All I Ever Needed" by AJ Michalka, Zayne sang a classic song with cool beats, covering "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol. Students were taken aback by the words being sung.
Using a totally different style, Olivia took the stage and sang "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. The different rhythms of the song had people dancing in their seats. The closing act was an original song about the groups' favorite character, Walawigi, performed by Mack, Kaylen, Kaylee, and lead singer Abby. The song was done to the tune of "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen. All the acts were given golden buzzers and standing ovations. The night left students singing with big smiles as they were wowed by all the acts.
